Eddy Oko-Jaja's Charity Work

In November 1995 Eddy Oko-Jaja commenced his first voluntary work when he joined the management committee of Hackney community transport. He also got involved with many other charitable organisations as director or trustee or front line advice and support person. These include:

  • Management Committee of Hackney Community Transport, 1995 - 1999
  • Hackney Community Transport (vice chair) in 1999
  • Age concern Hackney (information and advice, 1995 - 1997
  • Centre for Independent Transport Research London (director), 1996 - 2000
  • Finsbury Park action group (director), 1995 - 1999
  • Disability Action in Islington (trustee), 1997 - 2000
  • Disability Hackney (trustee), 2000 - 2004
  • Advisor at Citizens Advice Bureau in Finchley (trainee), June - November 1999
  • Community Empowerment Network Hackney
  • Hackney Local Authority Strategic Partnership Board, 2000 - 2004

He helped to build Hackney Community Transport from a mere £200,000 per annum turn over organisation in 1995 to its present status of about £15,000,000 while he was in the management committee and vice chair 1995-1999.

Education

Mr. Oko-Jaja holds the following qualifications:

  • LLB Hons Law degree, B.A.Hons. International Relations and Politics from London Guild Hall University
  • B.Sc Hons Applied Soc. Sc. University of North London
  • B.A.Ed Hons and Master of Education (M.Ed).
  • NCE English and History, University of Lagos
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Times Journalism Institute

He trained in the Bar of England and Wales to be a Barrister at Inns of Courts School of Law, City University London and is a student member of the Honourable society of Lincoln's Inn.

He is currently completing a PhD (doctor of philosophy) degree by research at the University of Sheffield in Continuing education and training for workers in the transport industry, a study of community transport in London.
